* You need a boat to begin fishing.

* [Main Phase](/main-phase-launch.md) Launch: Boats become paid assets, needed to activate your fishing rig.

Your boat is your base: it unlocks the fishing gameplay and starts your yield journey. Every fisher, no matter how degen, needs one to get afloat. And in [Voyage Alpha](/voyage-alpha-phase.md), we’re giving them away. But after? Gotta pay to sail.

## Rods: Your Yield Engine

* Rods are where the magic happens. Each rod has:
  * Speed (rate of fish earning)
  * Luck (rarity fishing jackpot)
  * Hashrate (yield power)
* You get 1 free rod via giftcode (non-upgradable, 1 per user).
* Paid rods offer better stats, higher returns, and more scaling potential.

Rods are like turbo-charged rigs. More rods = more power. Want to climb the leaderboard? You’ll need to stack and upgrade. Free rod starts the game, but paid rods win the race.

* When used, they grant 1 free rod to the receiver.
